Freilegung

DE

A fragment functions as a carrier of truth. It is undoubtedly original and stands for the unaltered, the original, the truthful. It is the support of thought that allows the observer to fill missing parts with fantasy. The fragment is condensation through reduction. The insignificant becomes important and the essential must be added. The aesthetic fragment surpasses the original total artwork, for it is only through its detachment from the mostly overloaded context that it can unfold its full beauty and effect.

In the stairwells seemingly restorative test axes were laid and historical fragments uncovered. The excavations are image quotations from the castles and collections of the Foundation. Real or fake? The question of the truthfulness and originality of cultural treasures in times of the reconstruction of replicas and the eradication of time traces at the expense of original substance is presented playfully and ironically with this installation.
