Work in progress

DE

workin progress

„The finished has something alienating, almost frightening; everything becomes iron and stone, final, there is nothing left to want. […] Finished things cease to be a shelter for the spirit; but work in progress is a delight.“ wrote the architect and writer Max Frisch

Education, too, does not know a finished state. Study continues throughout life and is a labour-intensive, ever-continuing process, a work in progress. In the recessed main entrance, a wall-filling image motif made of dense branches of scaffolding and shuttering is displayed. It was designed on the basis of a photograph depicting the scaffolding of the ceiling formwork during the construction phase at this exact spot. The structure, which makes sense from a construction point of view, appears as an apparent spatial relief, as a trompe-l’oeil in the process of becoming. The processuality of the construction phase is carried over through art into the finished building. The new building remains permanently visible as a work in progress.
